Education Innovators - Smithsonian EdLab
GOAL: To create an atmosphere of fun, creativity, and collaboration for a 1st grade reading group through the digital platform of an iPad.
BACKGROUND: Smithsonian EdLab strives to tackle learning issues through digital platforms. As part of the Fall 2011 Education Innovators group, I collaborated with colleagues to create a best practice that incorporated technology. During the same semester, I was a student teacher at the Oyster Adams Bilingual School, so I decided to use my students to test my best practice.
After several weeks of testing, the Education Innovators presented their best practices in an open forum to fellow museum professionals, professors, and teachers. Learn more about my project through my presentation here.
This project was also presented at the American Association of Museums (AAM) Committee on Museum Professional Training (COMPT) Marketplace of Ideas Graduate Flash Showcase 2012. I created a takeaway (download the pdf at the bottom of this page) that invites the participant to learn about the museum applications of the StoryKit app and create a story of his/her AAM experience so far.
