Marketing and Design Work
Sometimes as a museum professional, you need to wear different hats. One hat that I've enjoyed wearing is the Marketing hat. Through various internships, I was tasked with creating e-newsletters, or corresponding with volunteers, or developing online content for the education page, or creating simple flyers for a program. These individual experiences taught me that communicating with people outside the museum doors is just as important as what you're communicating once they're inside.
My passion for art and art history goes hand in hand with my eye for design. While I was growing up, my parents said that I had a sharp eye for color. I had never taken this seriously--never took drawing lessons, or even majored in Studio Art. But I always found myself doodling, experimenting with pastels, watercolors, and photography--I even taught myself how to use Photoshop.
While taking a course on Exhibition Design in graduate school, I was able to learn Adobe InDesign and basic Adobe Illustrator and acquire the skills to develop an eye for designing in museums. I have to admit that it was exciting and one of my favorite courses.
