Professional Development
Being a lifelong learner, it's important for me to keep learning in order to remain relevant to students today and up-to-date on teaching standards. Admittedly, I enjoy learning and the challenges that it brings. =)
I looked to Coursera for opportunities to refine my learning and practice. These free online courses are taught by professionals in their respective fields. But more than the quality of teaching, I looked forward to the peer-to-peer interactions that happened in the forums. If I wasn't watching the videos or doing the readings, I was in the forums, trying to gain more insight, help others, and make connections.
Fortunately, Coursera developed a professional development opoprtunity specifically for teachers. Although it's meant for classroom teachers, I believe that many of these courses apply to educators of all kinds. As these courses wrap up, I will create a separate page (in a blog style) that details my reflections and thoughts throughout the course.
Courses in progress or taken.
1. Art & Inquiry: Museum Teaching Strategies for Your Classroom
2. Foundations of Teaching for Learning 1: Introduction
3. Creativity, Innovation, and Change
4, Dino 101: Dinosaur Paleobiology
5. Effective Classroom Interactions: Supporting Young Children's Development
6. Content Strategy for Professionals: Engaging Audiences for Your Organization
