Paint Me a PictureDate: 20 March 2013
Time: 10-11am Location: Lake County Discovery Museum Age: 2-5 years old (and caregivers) Objectives:
This lesson is a part of a series for this age group called "Small Discoveries". Many of the children attend multiple Small Discoveries lessons, so I knew it was important to build a good relationship with them. The lesson's structure starts out with a gathering activity, a short intro on the topic, a few stories, and a craft. |
For story time, I had a fun time thinking of ways for the kids to be engaged. We read Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh. In order for the children to be involved in the reading, I created colored mice and gave one to each child.
When a certain primary colored mouse was doing something in the book, I had the children with the same color stand up and act the same way. Sometimes even the caregivers stood up and acted, too!
Although, I didn't plan enough to fill up the whole hour, the children had a blast mixing primary colors and witnessing new colors emerge. They can certainly paint for hours on end!
