Girl Scout Seniors - Collage Artist
Before I left my temporary position at the Lake County Discovery Museum, I wanted to write one more art-related scout program, especially for the older girls. The Girl Scout Seniors are 14-16 years old and the Museum didn't have any programs for them yet.
This program fulfills all of the requirements for the Collage Artist badge:
One of my favorite activities is one that combines requirements 4 & 5. The girls would have been introduced to the Dada movement and how politically and socially charged the artworks were.
After brainstorming some current issues surrounding society today (US and international), scouts will create a collage on a 6"x8" canvas using magazine clippings, construction paper, and found objects from nature and other office supplies.
Art is a powerful form of self-expression. My hope is that the scouts will be better able to do just that and not be afraid to speak their minds.
